Forensic Tip of the Day!

Happy Friday! I've spent the day glued to my computer writing some pretty scary stuff! But I thought I'd pause and share some of the gruesome/fascinating things I have learned about the profession of forensics. One of the hardest parts of an autopsy is pulling out the intestines - pretty yucky work. Enterotome scissors are used for opening them. The bulb-ended blade is inserted into the lumen (the hollow inside) of the gut and then the whole thing is basically unzipped. The blunt bulb keeps the internal blade from perforating the gut from the inside. This is not a job for the faint-of-heart!

Now, a tidbit about Justin. He's very worried that Cameryn will think he is too old, and so he is very nervous around her. What do you think?

Eeeeew! I'd hate to have my insides unzipped!

When is the new book coming out?

Justin and Cameryn both like each other so I think they should just get over it

I think Justin should be more worried about Cameryn's dad then Cameryn

I agree! But now that Kyle is out there, Patrick told Cameryn it was okay to date a man with a gun. (I loved writing that line!) Still, it is an issue. Patrick is very protective and it feels weird to him to see his little girl grow up. (She's ALMOST eighteen - just three more weeks!) And Kyle, who is her age, is crazy. So there you go - young and crazy or old and sane? great observation, by the way!

In the new book The Dying Breath is part of the setting going to be when Cameryn turns eighteen?

Hi Ashley!

Not to give too much away, but yes - she turns eighteen in this book. She get to go through Valentine's Day still seventeen, though, and it's very romantic and awkward and scary. (I've always LOVED Valentine's Day!) The scary part, by the way, involves Kyle, not Justin. Kyle is in love (if you can call it that) with Cameryn, too.

Anonymous asked when the new book is coming out, and I posted a very long reply that didn't show up for some reason. Sorry about that! Anyway, I got a bit waylaid because my daughter had problems with her pregnancy - she had a condition called preeclampsia, which is too-high blood pressure. Anyway, Kathy was placed on complete bed rest, so I was up in Ft. Collins helping. (That's a two hour dirve from where I live.) Then the baby came early. Since baby Katelin was so premature, I had to help again. (Kathy's husband DJ was amazing, but they also had a move right in the middle of all of this. AAACK! Such bad timing!) But now everything is great! Katelin is off of oxygen and home and thriving and I'm writing like a crazy woman to make up for lost time. I'm not sure when THE DYING BREATH will be out (I'm getting close!) but it should be soon!

Hey Alane,
I really think you should hold off Cameryn nd Justin's relationship. Not that I don't want it but it will make the story that much more suspenseful. And everyone enjoys some suspense.
P.S. I hope Katelin is doing well.

I was wondering when the new book was coming out I'm sure you haven't put a date to it but a estimate would be great. I cant take the suspense! Oh i know you cant go back and change the story but i thought it would be so weird but cool to see Kyle and Cameryn get together. What if she had a weird relationship with him where he could understand the dead like she does. Something like that lol i just want to read your new book no matter what ending.

The reason I don't know yet is that my editor has to weigh in and tell me what she thinks of the manuscript - so if it's great, it'll be one one list, while if it needs fixing up (all manuscirpts get SOME editing) then it will be a bit longer. Each list is six months apart. I'm hoping she loves TDB!

I just finished The Dying Breath. Just wondering when your next Cameron Mahoney book will come out?
