I'm so happy everyone is so anxious for The Dying Breath, and I'm about a week out from being done (YEAH!) and then it's up to my editor. She'll give me the date and then I'll turn around and give it to you. She should tell me fairly quickly what list it will be on.
It's starting to turn into autumn here in Elizabeth, Colorado, so I feel that little nip in the air that I love so much. Most of you are probably back in school now or just getting ready, so I hope you enjoy each and every second you have in your new classes - may this be an awesome new year for you all! Enjoy!

Super hush hush there - but you all will be in for a big surprise! Zipped Lips! (But thanks for asking!)
aww man! a big surprise? sounds awesome but is it good surprise or bad? lol now i wanna know badly
GOOD surprise! Writing is soooo much fun! :)

Soon! Mawahahaha!

Mow the lawn for money to buy my book?!? If you were here in Colorado I'd give you the biggest hug! Thanks for making my day/week/month!
i would do it too! your books are addicting!!!! and awesome!!!!
You know what? My lawn needs a good mowing! Hmmmm - how about a trade?
lol i would!! haha
And I've got weeds growing and all kinds of projects. Now if we could just get everybody together, we could launch an official The-Dying-Breath-Book-Signing-Work-Day! I'm loving the sound of this already. Free books all around!
hahah sounds good to me i would like a free book hahaha
I'll see what I can do! Maybe I'll think up some sort of contest....hmmmm, not a bad idea! As soon as I'm done with TDB I'll see what my scary mind can cook up. I've been inspired!
hahah well remember who gave ya the help for the idea. i wanna know the surprise badly lol
Brilliant minds work well together, don't you think? You'll be the first to know....:)
lol yep they always work well and yay im first to know lol my name's nicole by the way
Hi Nicole! It's nice to have a name to put with a great reader and I hope soon to be lawn-mowing fan! (Okay, I'll change that last part to 'contest-winning fan!') Are you a writer? I do a lot of writing classes (for adults who want to publish and for kids when I visit schools) so who knows - I might just launch a writing contest here. Or maybe a contest where I give you the clues and you all have to figure out who did the crime!?! Very fun - but I've got to get to work so I don't become the victim of murder at the hands of my editor, who is currently patiently awaiting my manuscript. This is just more FUN!
hi lol
i would wanna win the contest hehe unfortunately i am not a writer but wish to be one my dad always said i would be a good newspaper writer so idk lol i would like the contest with the clues and figuring out the crimes (im good at that i wanna be a csi hehe)well get to that awesome book cuz i want it badly and i know that ur editor will absolutely love it!! and the wait will be well worth have fun!
I really hope you're right - so far my readers like this one the best, because it really moves FAST! Wow, speaking of readers, did you follow what happened with Stephenie Meyers and Midnight Sun? One of her trusted readers actually POSTED her unpolished first six chapters, and she's so discouraged she's decided not to write it anymore. Horrible, horrible breach of trust. Anyway, I'll think about that contest with clues to a crime. My head is really spinning - I'm thinking of all the cops/forensic pathologists/coroners I know, and I bet and can come up with a REAL crime and see how you all do! But, alas, I'd better get back to writing! I'm really close to the end!
wow thats horrible what happened to Stephenie Meyers, i feel bad. haha that contest is gonna rocket blast with so many people but yea get back to writing and finishing. cant wait!!!
You give me the energy to go on!
im glad i can help lol so yea ill write again tomorrow bc i need ya to finish so i can read it so talk to ya tomorrow
Tomorrow, then - I can't wait!
Hello! This is a different anonymous, but I just wanted to say I'm excited for the next book, and I think it's neat how you're really connecting with your fans through this blog. I've really enjoyed the previous books, as I'm a huge fan of mysteries. Do you read any mysteries, or, if not, what kind of books do you like (besides Twilight, of course)?
-Lillie
Hi Lillie! (Great name, btw!)
I LOVE mysteries, but I stick to non-fiction mostly because I think I'm still trying to hunt the true-life killers. What do I read? Well, of course I love the science and social books of my mom, the famous author Gloria Skurzynski! Apart from those, I think my favorite book is Middlesex, by Jeffrey Eugenides. I'm obsessed with all of J.K. Rowling Harry Potter books (genius!) and of course, Stephenie Meyers. I try not to read mystery writers so that I don't unconsciously steal any ideas. It's true-life mysteries for me!
hi
its nicole again and the last comment on the 5th u said made my week :)! so hows everything?
hey alane
i just checked out the cliffhanger from my library to read while i wait and i already love it!
I'm so glad - my mom and I wrote those together and there are now 13 titles. Cliff-Hanger is one of my favorites. Thanks for checking that one out!
How is the book coming along?
Great - I'm working HARD!
Thanks for asking!
Are you near the end?
I'm really enjoying Cliff-hanger! It's a great book!
Just about there!!! Whoo hoo!
Ok, good because I want it badly! I don't want to read any other book!
Awww, you're so sweet! Thanks for giving me a final push! I'm working on it right now, so I'll get back to it. But it's so fun to hear that you're excited for TDB! Hooray!
hi alane
its nicole again
hows the book comin? you gettin closer to catching the killer? i hope so becasue i cant wait any longer i need to know whats goin to happen!! lol its drivin me crazy!!!!
Soooo close, Nicole. I must get back to death and mayhem. Keep those good thoughts coming! You cheer me up!
Hi, it's Lillie again. Just wanted to say I love Harry Potter as well, and that staying away from those mystery fictions so as not to steal ideas seems like a pretty smart idea, considering with the Agatha Christie books I read, I tend to forget the endings quickly, so if I ever remembered them, I'd probably have forgotten where they came from and if they were from a book or something I made up.
Luckily, this at least allows me to read them several times and they always seem new. Anyway, sorry if this is distracting. I'll let you get back to work, seeing as you're nearly finished. Good luck!
-Lillie
im glad ur close the closer u r the closer the book comes out and the closer i get to buyin and readin it. how long u think u got until your editor gets it? and even then how long?
-nicole
When I was a girl a read the most horrible story - it concerned Helen Keller (deaf and blind from the age of nineteen months due to a bout with scarlet fever, for those of you who don't know about her). When Helen was eleven she wrote a children's book called The Frost King. Well, it turned out that she was so smart she was in fact remembering a story called The Frost Fairies, which had been read to her when she was just a baby. They call what happened to Helen Keller cryptomnesia, which means things can remain in your subconscious, and can be pulled up later accidentally. The way I make sure that doesn't happen to me is that I read non-fiction and study real cases - NEVER mysteries. (I read a Patricia Cornwell novel ten years ago, but that's about it.) When I'm done writing mysteries I know I'll sit down a read a whole raft of them, just to catch up - I LOVE trying to figure things out!
hey
hows the book going?
My mom likes figuring things out too. I got her a puzzle book for her birthday and sh finished very quickly. She likes listening to songs and figuring out the meaning. She's pretty good at it.
Great! Working, working, working - I'm a worker bee! Well, a writing bee. Which is better than a spelling bee. I get hilarious when I am tired (at least to myself!).
awww ur tired cuz ur workin on that book well i cant wait!!!!! i want it so badly!! ahhhhhh its drivin me crazy lol well all i know for sure that the book will be great and worth ur tiredness(if thats a word)how close are u to the end?
Very close. It's pretty darn exciting, too! Thank so much for helping me to keep going!
ahhhhh i cant wait!!!!!! im excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
i think this has the most comments in a blog out of all of them haha
Yep - I'm giong to have to start saying things like 'Happy Monday" or 'Happy Day after Halloween!' We've had a fun, long thread on this one!
yea we did but hopefully u get to have one that says the book is done and out haha thats only my wish hahaha
Very soooooooooooon! I LOVE you guys!
is it really that soon? YAY!!!! u made me so happy and we love you too lol
Ahhhh I've read the other books in the series 3 times, almost 4. And I'll probably end up reading this one in one night and regret reading it so fast. Then, I'll have to wait for the next book to come out and we'll be in the exact same position we are now.
Oh no, you've GOT to keep reading. For me it's like breathing! Did you read the Twilight books? The Lovely Bones? Harry Potter? The Secret Life of Bees? I'll keep writing and you keep reading - look up books by Carol Lynch Williams (she's my friend and an AWESOME writer) or Gloria Skurzynski (my mom and brilliant!) and enjoy! And I'll HURRY!
my friend did a book report on the twilight book and it sounded great but i haven't a chance to get to the library. But i saw a trailer for the movie.
Hi Darla! I don't know what just happened, but when your post came it appeared the same one had been sent twice, and when I hit it the second message then the previous post said 'This Post Was Removed by the Author." NOT! Don't know what happened, but I would NEVER remove ANYTHING you had to say. I'm just a computer clutz!
oh no when it says this comment was removed by the author that means the person who wrote it. I deleted it b/c i thought it didn't send so i wrote a new one and then it showed up.
I can almost guarantee you will LOVE Twilight. Plus they're long books, so that ought to keep you busy until TDB! I'm dying to know who you'll like better, Edward or Jacob. So much fun - try to snag a copy!
the girl who is playing in the movie also played in "the messengers" i don't know if you've seen that but if you get the chance you won't regret it.
I think her name is Kristen Stewart she was born in Colorado.
See, Darla! A total computer idiot! All I know how to do is to dispatch people in unique and interesting ways. I talked to a coroner yesterday, going over the details of TDB, and I said, "What do you think of how I killed these people?" And she waited a minute, and then said, "What you thought up would work, and your mind scares me to death." Is that a good thing? Hmmmmmm.....
I've not seen it but will check out a copy. I'll watch and you read - perfect!
oh if you don't like scary movies it's a little intense. And that's pretty funny about that coroner. You know, I'm going to be a coroner when I'm older.
There's real job security in being a coroner since people are always dying! I'm a little bit funny about scary movies (can you believe it?) since my friend was murdered. I am a mass of contradictions - no one can figure me out! So I'll watch a sweet English movie instead. And drink tea. Then I'll go kill people. I make no sense, not even to myself!
I LOVED LOVELY BONES!!!!!I CRIED AT SOME POINTS!! IT WAS SOOOO SAD! LOL
it's funny how you can be so contradicting of yourself and not write at all like that.
I can't believe you love THE LOVELY BONES the way I do! The last line of the first chapter is burned into my mind, of course because of my own sweet friend and her untimely death. I have never read that part of the book without crying. Or the last chapter without reaching for a box of Kleenex. For any of you who have not read it, THE LOVELY BONES is truly beautiful and sad. It's an amazing read!
i loved that book. the last chapter made me cry too, but the chapter that made me cry the most was the end of chapter three (i would tell ya it but i dont wanna ruin it)with the father so yea it made me ball my eyes out!
Yep - I cried like a baby at the end of chapter three. But for me the hardest line I have ever read was where Mr. Harvey had finished attacking Susie, and he took the hat out of Susie's mouth.... "Tell me you love me," he said. Gently, I did.
The end came anyway.
Okay, pass me the tissues - that just broke my heart. It didn't matter what Susie did, she died. And lest any of you who haven't read the book think I ruined the plot by revealing too much, the second sentence of TLB says, "I was fourteen when I was murdered on december 6, 1973." A weird coincidence is that December 6th was my friend Savannah's birthday. Anyway, it's a wonderful book, and Peter Jackson (go LOTR fans!) is directing the film version. I can't wait to see the movie, even though I know I'll need a bucket full of Kleenex when I watch it!
yep that part was sad too. and wow ur friends bday was on the 6th of dec mines two days be4 . theres amovie comin out about it? when?
Some time in 2009. They don't know yet because it's still in production. I'm sure it will be great, though. You can look up details on IMDB! (Fantastic choices for the actors, btw!)
lol sounds awesome
