I Had a Brainwave!

Revisions can SUCK, but it's actually really fun when your editor is totally awesome, like mine. She's been pushes for something more concrete in one chapter of my book. So I had to come up with more specific rules for the game show in The Dead Giveaway, which had me walking in circles going, 'How, exactly, do I create a believable reality show and how can I spice up the 'rules'? Then my wonderful daughter-in-law Mandy came over and we threw out everything I had and just started making up new rules that are hilarious/creepy/just-wait-Hollywood-will-really-make-a-show-out-of-this and now I have that last chapter to rework and huzzah - DONE! Please keep lighting those candles for me to create/write/work, since I'm speaking in Florida at the end of the month and I want TDG finished before I leave. You're rooting really helps! I can feel your positive energy all the way out here in Colorado... :)

Ohhhh, I can't tell you that, as it would spoil the fun. Let's just say that there are...fireworks. Yep, that's the right word. FIREWORKS are coming!

Hi Alane! I am a huge fan of your work! If your not too busy (which I suspect you are because you're working on so many wonderful projects) I was hoping maybe I could email you and talk to you about your experiences as a writer. I always loved to write and I wanted to start being more serious about it and I was hoping maybe you could give me some pointers. Anyways, if you can, just respond to my comment and let me know if this is possible. I promise I won't poke and prodd for any info about your new books... I know that you could get into trouble for releasing information without permission. Thanks!

Hi Hannah! Right now I'm racing the clock on my revision, but I will be done soon and then I would be happy to help you. It'll be easiest to call, so email me at aferguson@alaneferguson.com and I'll send you my phone number. Then we'll chat! In the meantime, I'll have to work/work/work to get TDG to my editor next Tuesday. Wish me luck!

book revision almost done??????????? cant wait for the book to come out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wish you could give us a definition of "Fireworks" by the way are there a lot of JustinXcammie moments or Justin a scene every few chapters and how many chapters will the book have

Alane Ferguson said...

Let's see - 18 chapters, LOTS of Justin/Cameryn drama (you're not going to believe what I came up with, maw ha ha ha ha!) and TWO different murder arcs. I'm working at this very moment. Light candles and send good thoughts my way so that my brain will keep fixing and polishing. Came up with a twist on the game show portion that my beta readers say is 'epic'. (Blush!) I had to wait for my editor comments, but they were really, really good, and now you'll have the best book yet! (That's what she says, anyway!) Back to it!

any progress on the tv show...I think the books will make a great show...can't wait to know who will play cammie and Justin...wait it is the adaption of the forensic books right...not something different...the characters will be the same and the plot will be similar to all 5 books right???????????

Alane Ferguson said...

IF it gets made, then yes, it will be based on my characters and set in Silverton and Durango. The amazing David Ehrman agreed to write the television version, which is now being called Body Language. But...it takes many, many steps to go from here to there. I always keep up on my FAVORITE show, The Vampire Diaries, and Julie Plec, the producer, is writing a spinoff from TVD she's calling The Originals. Klaus and Haley (newly introduced werewolf girl in TVD) will star. The point is the CW still hasn't committed to green-lighting the show, and that's with the stars and the writing talent and the lead-in of TVD behind it! So it reminds me of how very many hoops there are to jump through. The good news for me is that David Ehrman has a fantastic reputation, and the producers backing me are incredible, so I have a chance. I'm still at the bottom of the mountain, but I'm on the mountain nonetheless! Whoot whoot!

It's on the FALL list. Huzzah! Back to final tweaks!

So much wait?!?!?!?!!!! Anyway at lest we have a idea

Alane Ferguson said...

It's the world of publishing. They used to say writing a book was like having a baby - a nine month process. But now it's like having an elephant - 18 months at best. These days there's a LOT that goes into creating a novel!

are you able to post ur new chapter 1 and 3 as soon as ur editor says yes to the book

Alane Ferguson said...

I don't know if she (or Penguin) will allow me to release that much copywrited material, but it's certainly worth a try. I'll be sure to ask. BTW, I'm still working on finishing up loose ends on TDG. The work of a writer is never done. (Sometimes it feels that way!) Anyway, your comments truly, really, absolutely keep me going. Many thanks for your support. I know I've said it before, but when you're really, REALLY tired, it helps more than you know. XO's for the interest and kind words!

i was wondering if you know any good books to read and tv shows because I've read Eve, Once: an eve novel, delirium, enclave, outpost, divergent, insurgent, the shadow society, and all their third books are coming out in month! any good tv shows to watch in the mean time?????

can u give me an image in my mind of Justin..maybe a celebrity

Alane Ferguson said...

Ohhhhhhhh, I'd rather hear who YOU had in mind. My favorite combination in the whole world is blue eyes and dark hair (Damon Salvatore, anyone?) but hair can always be dyed (did you know Ian Somerholder, a.k.a. Damon, is a natural blond?) so the most important thing would be the eyes. Blue/green, with dark fringed lashes. Any suggestions?

Cannot wait to read the new book! I am a librarian in Boulder Valley School District at an alternative high school. We have TEC program, and one of the courses is Criminal Justice. The students are currently studying Forensics. Would you possibly consider coming for an author visit? (Fingers crossed!)

Hi Katrina! Thanks so much for the kind words - I'm smiling here in Elizabeth! If you'd like to contact me privately, the best way is through email, which is aferguson@alaneferguson.com. Then we'll set up a time to talk. In the meantime, back to the revision. I ALMOST done!

how goes the show green lit yet?

Alane Ferguson said...

I'd say it's more of a yellow/green glow rather than a light - we're still hoping!

Anonymous said...

can u post an excerpt

Anonymous said...

how's it coming?????????????????????

Alane Ferguson said...

Head...banging...into...screen. Once you change a thread, you have to weave it though the ENTIRE manuscript. But I should have it on my editors desk Monday morning. Then I will go to bed and watch back-to-back episodes of The Vampire Diaries as a reward. Which, btw, is on TONIGHT! Go team Delena!

Hey Alane! This series is one of my top most favorite series EVER!!! I remember when I finished "The Dying Breath" and I thought it was the end of the series! THAT MADE ME SO SAD!!!!!!.............until I saw this blog! Haha it made me sooooooooo happy that you were making another book! I can't wait to get it when it's out!!!

Alane Ferguson said...

I can't wait until I metaphorically write 'the end' on The Dead Giveaway, which should be Sunday. Do a dance, chant, howl at the moon, anything for a final boost across the finish line, please! Seriously, though your sweet words of encouragement are truly helping. The saga continues, and I JUST came up with a new twist within a twist last week. Oh, to be done! But I want this book to be worth the wait, and that has meant a LOT of work polishing/polishing/polishing! Thanks for your good thoughts!

This series is one of my TOP FAVORITES!!! You're an awesome author and I just absolutely LOVE the books you wrote. They're just so interesting and I can never EVER put the books done once I started. I can't wait for this book to come out!!!!! I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!!!

Alane Ferguson said...

Picture a thousand kisses raining down on you from Colorado! Bless you!

Anonymous said...

Please tell me the dead giveaway isn't the last book in the series

Alane Ferguson said...

It's not - the next book is called The Enemy in the Walls, and I've already got it outlined. My writer's mind never sleeps!

Can u get Justin to propose to cammie in one of the books and they get married I'd just love that!

Alane Ferguson said...

That is an EXCELLENT idea! You must be a writer! But...do you think she's too young? Comments, please!

Anonymous said...

Yah maybe...but maybe in one of your books u could make her 21 or somewhere in her twenties or an epilonge

Alane Ferguson said...

Sweet! I like the epilogue idea, although I'd like to at least get her through medical school. But they seem meant to be together, our Justin and Cammie. Wait, I'm writing book five...or ARE they? Hmmmmmmmmm.........

Anonymous said...

Please tell me they don't break up...I'll hate it

Alane Ferguson said...

You'll just have to see - but there's a lot of lovin' in book five. And...that's all I can say. Stay tuned, I'm working on it right now!

Anonymous said...

Is there a love triangle I hate and I mean hate love triangles it ruins the characterss

Alane Ferguson said...

I can't tell you, but...you'll have to trust me with this. The Dead Giveaway has been everyone's favorite so far, so something is working. Especially me! (I am soooooooo tired!) Wait and see what happens! :)
